D6 Modern: Restatted Firearms

Why restat firearms?
The firearms, as presented in both D6 Space and D6 Adventure are a mess. They are pretty generic and the ranges are odd, IMHO. Therefore I restatted them in what I believe is a more uniform manner and gave more examples than what was found in the books.

Star Wars and the Indiana Jones books were two of the few which had coherent range numbers, the current books, not so much.

I substituted a D20 type range increment instead of the ones used in the three core books. I DID retain the throwing ranges from the books.

The max effective range is now 10x the listed range. There is a cumulative +3 to difficulty past the first range increment.

Molotov Cocktails
Range: As Dynamite.
Burst Radius: As Dynamite.
Cost: Very inexpensive--easily Scrounged together if alcohol or fuel is available.
Damage: 3D+2 fire damage. The cocktail's fuel will splash about 1m in all directions from impact and burn for 1D6 rounds.

Pipebombs
Range: As Dynamite.
Burst Radius: As Dynamite.
Cost: Very inexpensive--easily scrounged together if explosive powder is available.
Damage: 4D damage
Note: "Pipebombs" include just about every small, makeshift bomb the characters might whip up that throws shrapnel.

HEAVY WEAPONS
Rocket Launcher
Single-shot disposable rocket launcher, High Explosive Anti-Tank round.
Damage: 10D
Ranges: 100'
Blast Radius:  0-5, 5-10, 10-20
Scale: Tank

Flamethrower
Damage:  6D
Range:  Stream of burning fuel 70'.
Magazine: Two gallons of fuel, enough for 5 rounds of fire.
ROF:  1.  Can "spray" an entire area (about 30' wide) with a hose-like stream that counts as an attack (no multi-action penalty) against every target in the area.
Note:  Flamethrowers can be dangerous especially if the fuel tanks are pierced. If the fuel tank is pierced or ignited it will do 8D damage to anyone with 30' of the fiery blast.

D6 Optional Firearms Rules
 Rate of Fire
This is maximum shots per round on Single fire.
Standard -1D per extra action applies.

Burst and Autofire
Full Auto weapons may fire in Single shot, Burst, or Automatic.
A Burst uses five bullets per attack.
Full Auto uses 10 bullets per attack.

Hit/Damage Modifiers
Single Fire
Listed Damage
Standard -1D per extra action applies.

Burst Fire  (per attack)
+1D to hit, +1D to damage.
May attack up to three attacks per round.

Full Auto (per attack)
+1D to hit, +2D damage.
May attack up to three attacks per round.

Aiming
If the shooter takes a full round to aim he receives a +1D to hit on his attack in the next round. This applies to only the first attack.

  1. Minor quible... The AK-74 uses 5.45, not 5.56 rounds.

More serious quibble... not all 7.62 are the same. NATO uses 7.62x51 (FAL, G3, M240B, M24). Russian arms use 7.62x39 (AK-47) or 7.62.54 (SVD). These are vastly different rounds. The 7.62X39 has far less range and energy than a 7.62x54. So in order of damage from least to most : 7.62x39 - 7.62x51 - 7.62x54

  2. What range and damage would you put for them?
When statting I was aiming for action movie generic over absolute realism.

  3. I agree with you that this is not a simulation. That being said I would condsider moving 7.62x39 to a a straight 6D and keep the other two at 6D+2 (x51 and x54)... Or keep the 6D+2 for x39 and move the other two to 7D (somewhat problematic). In reality there isn't that much difference between a 7.62x51 and a 7.62x54. Both are monsters with power comparable to the .30-06. Both are capable out to around 1000 yards (but would require a very skilled shooter). I would consider changing the range increment to 120' for both of the larger rounds. Then perhaps move the .50 cal rounds to a range increment of 150'. Those are just my thoughts on them, but I am thrilled you are open to listening.

One last minor thing the G3A3 typically was issued with 20 rd mags.
